Herbal Steam

Hi everyone,
This post is  an extension of my previous monsoon skin regime. I am sharing some DIY facial steam methods for monsoon and it can be followed in any season.
Going to Beauty Saloons for acne herbal facials, scar treatments etc is waste of time and money. The products are not even 100% herbal. Specially those with oily skin  are prone to acne & pimples during monsoon. Somewhere these skin problems cause lack of confidence. That's why I have decided to post this DIY herbal steaming.

People have misconception about steaming  thinking it opens and closes the pores. However, it's just a myth . The Truth is pores do not open or close. Steaming only helps to loosen the impurities in the pores and makes external extraction easier. Once the debris are removed skin is ready to have its beauty food(facepack). Clean skin absorbs all benefits of beauty food efficiently.

Steam your face twice a week or at least once a week followed by herbal face pack to get excellent results.

Method:

# Mix 1tsp of green tea, 1/2 tsp of wild turmeric, 1 cinnamon stick, some basil leaves or 1/2 tsp of basil powder.

  • Clean your face with a gentle face wash. (I use himalaya neem face-wash)
  • Boil 500-750 ml water either in face steamer or saucepan. Keep it aside. Cover your head with a towel and take steam.
  • Make sure that water is hot enough to steam and not to burn your skin.
  • Steam for 3-5 minutes. Never steam your face more than 5 minutes as it can be harmful.
  • Once done with steaming remove blackhead or whitehead with the help of blackhead remover tool.
  • Now scrub your face with any natural homemade scrub or use your favorite scrubber.
  • Once done with scrubbing, apply a herbal homemade face pack.
  • Wash with cold water and apply a good moisturizer.
  • Make sure you are drinking ample of water to keep your skin rejuvenated.

A 2007 study published in Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry demonstrated the effectiveness of cinnamon extract on five bacteria including Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella anatum and Bacillus cereus.

The study found that cinnamaldehyde and proanthocyanidins contained in cinnamon are responsible for this broad-spectrum antibacterial action.

This broad-spectrum antibacterial activity makes cinnamon effective against acne-causing bacteria likeP. acnes and S. epidermis.

By removing these bacteria from the skin, cinnamon prevents the clogging of the skin pores and reduces the inflammation and increased sebum production caused by the microbes.
